So.
We'll be having a Memorial Service for Dad on Sunday, November 11th (which also happens to be Veterans' Day) at the VFW post. The Honor Guard will do a rifle salute, play taps, and then fold and present Mom with the flag.*
After, it'll just be drinks and food and sharing memories, and at some point in the future Dad's ashes will be scattered off an aircraft carrier.**
*My sister handled booking the VFW (Dad was Post Commander some years ago) and is taking care of the food, so I took over the 'services,' such as they are. Long story short, we're doing military honours. And I nearly lost it when I was talking to the man in charge of the Honor Guard. guh.
**If I've not mentioned it, Dad was a pilot. As a child, I only knew him as a corporate pilot, but he got his training in the Navy. He was a test pilot, and also flew reconnaissance, but most of all he loved his days flying from the carriers. Yep; my dad was a flyboy!
All may yet be very well.
