saucy_dryad: (were you there?)
"What a bunch. I know you well, gentlemen. You're in it for the quiet life and the pension, you don't hurry too much in case the danger is still around when you get there, and the most you ever expected to face was an obstreperous drunk or a particularly difficult cow. Most of you aren't even coppers, not in your head. In the sea of adventure, you're bottom feeders.

And now, it's war... and you're in the middle. Not on either side. You're the stupid little band of brownjobs. You're beneath contempt. But believe me boys - you'll rise."

Sadly, my lilac is past blooming.

I meant to post a different quote this year, but I do so like this one.

Just to be clear: my one-eyed kitty is named after a brilliant character from Pterry's Discworld. Not Stephenie Meyers' vampire books*.

I mean, look at her:

Photobucket

Does that face say, "We're so happy to have you as part of our non-traditional, warm and somewhat sappy vampiric family structure!" or does it say, "I can't be having with that." I think the answer is clear.

My Esme is sassy and sharp. She bounces off of walls and countertops and windowpanes. She manages to engage the older cats, no matter how much they might moan and hiss at first (headology!). She's enchanted a brusque, outdoorsy tomcat (Ridcully!). She's by turns clumsy and clumping (hobnail boots!) and extraordinarily delicate (dealing with Tiffany Aching!). She sleeps deeply. I am sorely tempted to paint "I Aten't Dead" on a scrap of cardboard. Maybe I'll stick a wee witch's hat on her and snap a picture.

Actually, that could be adorable. Okay. You all need to be on the lookout for tiny witch's hats.

*though, to be fair, as vampires go, Meyers' Esme was lovely and sweet and kind. I liked her, and I rather liked 'Twilight.' It was gothic romance escapist fluff. If only the author had stopped there.

But in any case, that's not my kitten.
