Comic Con, day 2
Feb. 7th, 2009 10:19 pmThe Bad:
Couldn't get to Tammy's panel.
Couldn't get to Tammy's signing.
Crowds were oppressive.
Didn't get a chance to hang with
thumbelinablues. bah.
The Good:
Saw many wonderful people, including
fair_juliet,
rabbitactor,
tinkerkelly, and many more who aren't on LJ. At the very least, they're hidden from me.
Had my 'Wanted' poster sketched by Steve Ellis. I look smiley and sort of cute. I was hoping he'd make me as ethereally beautiful as
screamingdolai, but then he was limited by the material he had to work with.
Ran into someone I used to work with at B&N, which was all kinds of happy. I adore that lad. I think he's planning on going to WizardWorld Philly, too. Yay!
The Geektastic:
I had my picture taken with TMNT Raphael, aka
young_will. I always suspected she had a secret life.
I found Waldo. Four or five times. Dude isn't even trying anymore.
Han Solo and Chewbacca!. I didn't get a pic, alas; the Chewie costume was excellent, and Han was quite dashing.
Saw someone dressed as Flycatcher.
Night Owls fan club card! LAMINATED!

Dec. 15th, 2008 10:48 pmI am such a sucker for Pixar movies. Monsters, Inc. never fails to make me happy, and I think The Incredibles is pretty near perfect. Anyway, two nights ago, Don and I watched WALL*E. It was adorable and heartbreaking and completely charming and funny and sweet. I cried buckets, 'cause that's what I do.
Today, we went to the cinema (that alone is a huge deal; I think the last movie we watched on the big screen was... Casino Royale? can that be right?) and saw Bolt. When I wasn't raging at minor/offscreen characters for the choices they inflicted on our heroes, I was thoroughly delighted. And weepy. 'Cause, y'know, it's animals, and I am ridiculous. But the action scenes were sort of amazing, and if there were actually a 'Bolt' tv show, you bet I would tune in every week.

Dec. 11th, 2008 11:17 pmI should be sleeping. I have to be up in four and a half hours. Trouble is, I'm bouncy and wired and ever so far from the mere idea of sleeping.
Instead, I'm slouching about google trying to find a Connie Willis Christmas story I read a few years ago.* I think it was in Asimov's magazine, but I'm not entirely certain. This, of course, has reminded me that I never dug through all of my boxes of books to find the printed collection of her Christmas stories. In addition, I want to reread 'All Seated on the Ground.' NOW.
But I should be sleeping.
ETA: I've printed out 'Just Like the Ones We Used To Know,' and am seriously considering doing the same with 'All Seated on the Ground.' And I still can't find the darned designer Christmas tree story. bleargh.
yetanotherETA: yay! I've found the title (deck.halls@boughs/holly), but, alas, can not find the text.
*it was about someone who did designer Christmas trees/decor. And, of course, there was a bit of the screwball comedy/falling in love to it. She may do that a lot, but she does it brilliantly, so I shan't complain. 'Spice Pogrom' still makes me all melty.

Nov. 22nd, 2008 10:25 pmJust to be clear: my one-eyed kitty is named after a brilliant character from Pterry's Discworld. Not Stephenie Meyers' vampire books*.
I mean, look at her:

Does that face say, "We're so happy to have you as part of our non-traditional, warm and somewhat sappy vampiric family structure!" or does it say, "I can't be having with that." I think the answer is clear.
My Esme is sassy and sharp. She bounces off of walls and countertops and windowpanes. She manages to engage the older cats, no matter how much they might moan and hiss at first (headology!). She's enchanted a brusque, outdoorsy tomcat (Ridcully!). She's by turns clumsy and clumping (hobnail boots!) and extraordinarily delicate (dealing with Tiffany Aching!). She sleeps deeply. I am sorely tempted to paint "I Aten't Dead" on a scrap of cardboard. Maybe I'll stick a wee witch's hat on her and snap a picture.
Actually, that could be adorable. Okay. You all need to be on the lookout for tiny witch's hats.
*though, to be fair, as vampires go, Meyers' Esme was lovely and sweet and kind. I liked her, and I rather liked 'Twilight.' It was gothic romance escapist fluff. If only the author had stopped there.
But in any case, that's not my kitten.

Shiniest. Anniversary. Gift. EVER.
Oct. 1st, 2008 07:20 pmLast night, my dearest handed me one of these*:

It's so happy. I just have to figure out how to really use the darned thing.
Anyone have advice for me? Apps I must have? Apps to avoid? What's worth spending money on? Oh, and does anyone know how I can upload the Dr. Horrible Van Remote? I have the website for the it, I just don't know how to get it onto my phone. And let's face it kids, along with figuring out how to make a Bad Horse Chorus ringtone, this is priority one!
ETA: so yes, when you turn the phone, the picture adjusts. I knew it had this function, and yet it just made me squee! aloud.
*Yes, he also got one for himself. We're on the same plan, after all, and hey - it was his anniversary, too!

* Grab the nearest book.
* Open the book to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post the text of the next two to five sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.
"... The Doctor was a little too much for them."
"Huh. You think?" Team or not, this was going to be Damsel's show, I could tell. "We've got our suspect now. Is everyone fully up to speed on the Doctor Impossible file? Original sighting in the first bank job, then a classic evil genius development cycle. Almost textbook."
